Ingredients
- 1 package Zweigle’s Italian Sausage
- ½ medium white onion, diced
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- ½ cup shredded Parmesan
- 1 14oz. can diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 4oz can spicy hatch Chile peppers, drained
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 basil leaves, sliced
- Crostini or other crackers for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Remove casing from Italian sausage links and crumble. Tip: after you remove the casing, put the Italian sausage in a food processor or blender to make crumbling easier.
- Finely dice onion.
- In a large skillet, cook onions and sausage crumbles until hot, about 10 minutes.
- Once the sausage and onions are done cooking, combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl except ¾ cup mozzarella cheese and basil.
- Spread mixture in a cast iron skillet and top with remaining mozzarella.
- Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes or until it starts to bubble. Broil for an additional 3-5 minutes until the cheese starts to brown.
- Top with basil and enjoy with baked crostini or your cracker of choice.
