While we truly believe that any day is a good day to enjoy a Zweigle’s, what better occasion than National Hot Dog Day? Falling on Wednesday, July 18 this year, the national holiday commemorates this tasty snack with a variety of celebrations and festivals.

In certain towns around the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia, you can expect to see anything from hot dog eating contests to root beer chugging contests and face paintings. There’s even an Annual Hot Dog Lunch that takes place on Capitol Hill each year. Sponsored by the American Meat Institute, more than 1,000 members of Congress, Administration officials, journalists, and lobbyists gather together for a hot dog picnic in the courtyard.

And in case you’re wondering, we’re not joking. This annual event has been running strong for the past 40 years!

Don’t think you have to travel all the way to Capitol Hill to celebrate though. Alfred, NY hosts their own festivities every year, too. Started in 1972 by a group of college students, the event typically boasts a parade, ice cream social, “fun run”, mud Olympics, hot dog eating contests, carnival, and live music.

There’s also plenty of opportunity to host your own celebration. Fire up the grill, grab a pack of Zweigle’s, and enjoy this national holiday while it lasts! You can even take things a step further by setting up your own DIY hot dog bar, or doctoring up hot dogs for your guests featuring one of these nine unique hot dog toppings.

The possibilities are endless, and there’s no reason not to celebrate.

Did we mention that the entire month of July has actually been titled National Hot Dog Month, too? Now you have an excuse to repeat the above steps as many times as you’d like!
