It’s no secret that we love hot dogs. They’re a classic. What most people don’t realize though, is that there are many non-traditional ways to make a delicious Zweigle’s hot dog. Just check out our blog post on these 7 Must-Try Hot Dogs from Around the World, and you’ll see.
In addition to the many international takes on the hot dog though, there are plenty of other unique topping combinations that will have you craving this snack all year round.
Here are some of our favorite ideas that we bet you haven’t tried before:
- Baked Beans and Bacon
Who doesn’t love bacon? Wrap a piece around your hot dog, add some baked beans, and you’ve got yourself a baked beans and bacon dog. Simply delicious…and a bit of a tongue twister!
- French Onion Dip and Chips
While it may seem odd to load up your hot dog with crushed chips and dip, it’s surprisingly tasty!
- Mozzarella, Tomatoes, and Basil
For those of you who like caprese salad, you’ll love this hot dog topping.
- Caramelized Onions and Swiss Cheese
Known as the French onion dog, this variation is perfect for those of you who enjoy French onion soup. We can’t wait to try this one too!
- Mango Salsa
We know what you’re thinking…salsa on a hot dog? We were a bit skeptical too, but fresh mango or peach salsa seems to be a favorite unique topping among some. It’s worth a try!
- Onion Rings
Instead of onion rings on the side, why not try ‘em as a topping? Sounds good to us!
- Taco Meat, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and Sour Cream
An interesting combination, a taco dog sounds right up our alley.
- Barbeque Sauce and Coleslaw
Many of us have had coleslaw on a hot dog before, but add some BBQ sauce for a smoky twist.
- Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato
Everyone loves a good BLT, so we can totally understand the hype over this combo. We think this trio would be a great starter for people just starting to experiment with toppings!
Some are more wild than others, but we hope you’ll try some of the above topping ideas the next time you’re in the mood for a Zweigle’s. And tell us in the comments below, what’s YOUR favorite hot dog topping? Which of the above do you most want to try?
