The snow’s falling, and it’s officially winter in Rochester. Though it may not be our favorite season in Upstate New York, we promise there’s still plenty to celebrate. Check out these seven fun ideas we’ve rounded up, and get a hold on all the cool events happening here in Rochester this season. We swear, the snow and cold is worth it!

1. See
the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

Rochester is known for its wonderful music
scene. Take advantage of it this winter and catch the Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra live in concert. If you’re in the mood for something festive, the
RPO’s annual Holiday Pops concerts are taking place December 21-23. You can
also experience the wizarding world of Harry Potter in a film showing and live
concert January 11-12, and a Star Wars themed event January 25-26.

With this amazing lineup and uber talented
orchestra, you just can’t go wrong.

2. Take
a Holiday & Christmas Lights Driving Tour

You may or may not have noticed, but people
take the holiday season pretty seriously around here. Get out and witness some
of the most decked out houses in the area by taking a driving tour this year of
all the holiday and Christmas lights. They’re only up once a year, so you won’t
want to miss it.

Check out this guide to find some of the best, verified
spots in town.

3.
Visit the George Eastman Museum

Visiting the George Eastman Museum is a
worthwhile excursion all year round. That being said, it’s especially exciting
during the holiday season. The annual gingerbread display is hard to beat, so
hurry on over before it wraps up for the season on December 12.

4. Tour
the Genesee Country Village

Take a trip back in time this holiday season
with a Yuletide in the Country Tour at the Genesee Country Museum. Experience
everything from simple celebrations to high-Victorian decorations during this
90-minute walking tour that’s bound to get you into the holiday spirit.

5.
Attend a Show at Geva Theatre

In addition to being known for its incredible
music scene, Rochester is also home to many wonderful dramatic productions.
There’s plenty of shows going on at the Geva Theatre, including the classic
favorite A Christmas Carol, which runs
from December 4-29. Don’t miss out!

6. Go
Ice Skating

While it’s not a scheduled event, ice skating
is always a fun way to pass some time during Rochester winters. Just make sure
you’ve got plenty of hot cocoa to indulge in as soon as you get home.

7. See
an Amerks Game

Don’t feel like getting out on the ice
yourself? No problem. Now’s the time to get downtown and see an Amerks game.
Not only is it entertaining, but you’re supporting a local team and forcing
yourself to get out of the house despite the cold weather. In our book, it’s a
win/win.

What’s your
favorite thing to do in Rochester during the winter season?
