Ever wondered how to take an Instagram-worthy food pic? We don’t mean to brag, but it’s kind of our specialty! Check out our tips below on nailing the perfect shot, and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for more food photography inspiration.
- Lighting is Everything
No matter what type of photo you’re trying to take, lighting should be your number one priority. Natural light is always going to give you the best quality photo, so try to situate yourself near a window. Don’t worry too much about the type of camera you’re using either. Iphones work great nowadays, especially if you’re able to use portrait mode, which will help you to focus on your subject (the food) and blur out everything else.
- Consider the Background
Nothing is worse than capturing the perfect shot, just to realize later that you’ve been photobombed. Pay attention to the background of your photo, and consider creating an image from a bird’s eye view if there’s too many people around to get a good photo otherwise.
- It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect
When you’re setting up your photo, don’t get too caught up trying to make the setting look perfect. Images look best when there’s some different elements to them, so don’t be afraid to bring in some additional textures and colors.
- Edit, Edit, Edit
To really create a “wow” factor for your food photography, take things up a notch with some basic editing. Apps like VSCO and Instagram are great, because they offer a variety of filters and manual options to choose from.
- Try Different Angles
Finally, try to take more than just one photo of your food before you eat it! You never know which one you’ll like best, so play with different angles. You can always delete some images later on, but you can’t go back and take more once the food’s gone.
